Thanks for the feedback Peppe. I'll see if I can find some time soon to do
this, unless there is an objection.
no objections from my side :)
I should be able to address your issue
1. You didn't mention the fact that Save as HiRes image only produces PNG
files and not JPEG. I'll have to take a look at the code and see if I can
remove that restriction.

Hi larry,
I tested the HiRes of SkyJUMP.
Here is the results
First of all: SkyJUMP imports only JPG so I
transformed a ECW file in JPG (SkyJUMP doesn't use
SIGLE plugin for ECW)
I used a JPG file with standard PIXEL 5815/3895 dim.
but with 400 DPI,the double DPI as required by Italian
Topographic maps.
1) To export to HiRes, SkyJUMP requires at least an
extra vector file with at least one feature, otherwise
it doesn't export the pure raster layer
2) I exported the map at 2000 Resolution
3) Skyjump was quite fast, around 30 sec. on my Athlon
1800 (a wee bit old :-))
4) the output image was OK (2000x1689 PIXEL. DPI is 72
5) enlarging the image to original 5815 width dim. it
works fine (except that the DPI is 72-derived)
I think that it is OK.
Export to HiRes Image could be a good tool for
OpenJUMP, better than the actual Export to image.
Instead to have 2 export image tools, I tghink that
Export to HiRes should substitute the Export image,
saving the possibility to write a world file.
Thanks again Larry

Hi Peppe,
SkyJUMP has a Save to HiRes Image plugin that can
probably be ported
easily to OpenJump. It can save images as large as
3800 x 3800 pixels.

Hi Jukka,
the problem is that even print plugins do not
allws to
save images with a good resolution. I tested the
sourceforge one (Print Layout PlugIn by
Intevation).
Set Page to A0 and try to print a 73x58 cm image
(typical dimansion of 10000 topographic maps in
Italy)
but had a bad quality image. The problem is that
whatever you want to print, it prints always at
screen
resolution - so if the map is large and you zoom
to
the entire area, you'll have an image with low
resolution

Hi,
Sounds like this is the place for printer
plug-ins
to join in. However, I have liked the fine
simple
additional feature of writing world file in
'export
as image' tool. If printer plugins had
'print-to-file' and 'with worldfile' options
then
they could be used for making larger high
quolity
digital raster products. It could be quite a
productive way to add own symbolised points of
interest on top of some ready made raster map to
be
used in, for example, moving map PDA
applications
(Ozi Explorer etc.)

Aihe: [jump-users] about Export view as
image...
Hi all developers,
actually export as image tool allows only to
export the view
at the screen solution. This is usefull if
users
export small
project to embed on a A4 sheet page.
But this becomes unusefull if users need
larger
(in
dimension) image, which are typical
topographic or
geological
maps (A2,A1 or A0 sheet pages).
How to increase output image saving original
DPI?
or
How to increase DPI of output image view so
that
the image
can be resized to the original one?
Peppe
