I agree with Larry.

one for open projects/using the wizard
one for adding new layers,

I think that the toolbar folder for the open wizard and a plus + sign for
the Open File is what is needed. There is no overlap there. We can even
use a yellow plus to be more like ESRI and less like Load Datasets.

I didn't think about this. I agree it is better to reduce the number
of ways to access the same functionality. AutoCAD always has 50
different ways to do the same thing, which can lead to confusion,
especially for new users.

Good point Jukka.

Hi,

I reed plus sign like 'Add' . Perhaps Folder icon suits better when you
are
opening something that is ready made, that is, stored project? Quite
othen
you are building your project by collecting data from different places
into
your collection and using + sign is rather intuitive. Not so important
though, I believe both ways can be learned.

Hi Paul,

I think the menu icons are fine and great for new users. The + icon
on
the toolbor is for ESRI users like the reviewer and long-time JUMP
users.
It is more important to please both users than following an kind of
design
aesthetic.

Larry,

I think we should have our own GUI/Icon style rather than just
following
the design of ESRI tools, Now when coming up with that style we can
take
into account design elements such as what is used in general software
and also GIS software so that any computer user would be able to work
out the function of the icon.

As a compramise, let's have the following icons for the open menu
items
and toolbar (slightly different from now)

Open... The folder with the +
Open File... The folder with a page
Open Project.. The folder with the project you created.

Uwe,

I'm not sure why you think the new Open Wizard is a hard way to load
PostGIS tables, in the old method you selected a drop down then
entered
the parameters. With the new one you double click an icon and then
enter
the parameters. And if someone wants to they can create a new panel
for
the parameters to include validation of those parameters,

Paul
