I just want to add a Me Too to this thread. My K9 is having the exact same problems, non-rooted HTC One M8.

I've tried disabling the Web View update, still doesn't work for me. When you say Disable, is it simply that, or do I need to uninstall it?

Nothing to do with Chrome
I had been using Dolphin the whole time..

Now we know for sure that the problem has something to do with that
WebView thing
I did disable it, and now the problem is gone, obviously, but I don't
know wether I will be needing WebView in the future
So lets just hope WebView and/or K-9 will get an update soon...

I was only suggesting disabling webview as a temporary work-around
so that you could open http links from K9 message views.

It is interesting that this doesn't appear to be a widely reported
issue so there may be something else going on.

As a test, I uninstalled all browsers (and disabled chrome,
including uninstalling updates) on my android 5.1.1 / K9 5.106
device. This did, not surprisingly, result in the error you are
seeing. [Just uninstalling all browsers except chrome didn't result
    in an error.]

Re-enabling chrome, and installing the current version
(43.0.2357.92), made things work again. You might want to
uninstall/reinstall chrome and see if that fixes things. And/or you
might also want to try installing a second web browser
    (firefix/dolphin/opera).

[As an aside - at least with K9, if you only have one app that can
fulfill an external call request - e.g., open an http link - you
    don't get prompted.]

By the way, when reporting issues please include the Android and K9
    release details.
