Jim:
        Heya. So I found another workaround: if you add a new
Group, then any buggy "invisible" groups will come back. I think
I've isolated the pattern of movement that makes the groups go
away: it involves setting Privacy status and then moving an icon
into a group that causes that group to grow from 1 row to 2 rows
tall.
        Took me a while to find that one. I think I may have
hypnotized myself in the process. :)
