In Acrobat Exchange 3.0, there was a feature that allowed you to "capture"
the page. Basically, it went through and converted as much of the graphic
into text as possible. But unlike other OCR software, if it didn't
recognize the character, it left just that portion as a graphic - and the
formatting came through. If I remember correctly, it did help reduce file
size - but it's been a long time since I've used it (like 1996).

I don't know if the newer versions still have that feature. If they don't,
I still have a copy of Exchange on this machine. If you would like, send a
file over and I'll try it and send it back. And we'll see if it helps the
file sizes. [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Are you concerned about the size when downloading, or for storage?

This may be a little off topic. I don't know if any of you have written any
kind of document management software. Lately I have been scanning documents
converting them to pdf and putting them on the web for download by my
clients. Thing is since its an image the pdf is freaking HUGE! I wondered if
anybody knew of a way to shrink the file size up a bit.
