As I use nemo, nautilus or even explorer they all do not create new folders in some subfolder but in PWD [1][2] . The video posted above by another user seems actively expand the details view to make it do that [3] (Key: cursor right). This is how nautilus behaves with selected folders normally [4] without explicitly expanding a folder. I also think "all the other file managers do it like this" is indeed a valid argument. I personally want to work in different environments and rely on the fact that on the most basic level like "folder creation" they all work with the same keyboard shortcuts. I use this several dozen times a day. As this obviously seems to be a contentious issue, it would be a bad idea to prescribe non-standard behavior - at least make it configurable.
