--- Comment #2 from ljohnson <[email protected]> --- Hello again, One more comment about the exhibited problem. It is not that Kate was released in a nonfunctional state. I had used the version for some time and it was working quite well. But either because I had down/loaded or updated something else or something in the sequence of Kate operations, something changed so that Kate "save" started writing out zero length files with no warning or error message to the user. In the process of trouble shooting the problem, I had done supposedly to full and complete re-installations of both Kate and KWrite. I was not using KWrite, but Claude.ai had flagged that both programs used the same lower level structure. As I had said previously, I had thought that I had installed the KDE desktop operations after my recent Fedora Linux installation, but had not realized that the KDE installation did not take place. It was just today that I realized that I did not have some strange variation of KDE, but did not have KDE at all. I was using a GNome desktop. I immediately changed over to KDE. As a general habit, when I make a major change to a computer system, I do a full system update and upgrade. I did this today. That is when I discovered Kate and KWrite were now working. Thus, I don't know if the problem for Kate was that I was operating with a GNome desktop or that there is some Kate unrecognized dependency that is not recognized and was not included in my full re-installation of Kate and KWrite. But regardless, the underlying "write" software should include more checks make the software more robust and to alert the user of a possible problem or software error. I hope that my comments are of use to the Linux team.
