Hi Gary,
so far we were concentrating on more basic issues - making the whole stuff 
compile, fixing crashes.
The performance issues will be more difficult to track down. Certainly many 
features are affected by graphic card/its drivers, there are differences in 
performance between ati/nvidia etc.
It would be good you you could try it on different hardware and report back if 
you see a difference.
We'll need people who can analyze such issues, D-Trace gurus, wizards of all 
kinds, as well as ordinary users with good observation skills to smoothen the 
KDE experience on Solaris.

do you mean all applications or only kde ones? if you have a konsole running 
and start them from there, are there any hints? anything useful in 
~/.xsession-errors? or /var/adm/messages?
