It's most likely an effect of Qt and all the KDE packages being debug builds with extensive logging, at least for the general slowness. There also seem to be some DBUS and name lookup issues that sometimes slow things to a crawl, but I have not figured out what that is yet. Like Pavel said: debugging help is really appreciated.
