See the KDE FAQ, question 4.8:
http://docs.kde.org/en/HEAD/kdebase/faq/install.html#id2961176
If you're using startx, then you want to create the file .xinitrc

Those errors have been truncated, so aren't much use. Anyway, I think they're
coming about because you did the previous step wrong. Starting kcontrol from
within a KDE session should work perfectly.

You can start a second KDE session with "startx -- :1" and access that with
Ctrl+Alt+F9. It's a separate session, so you can't move windows between the
two. You can use multiple desktops to get more screen real estate. See the
User Guide:
http://docs.kde.org/en/HEAD/kdebase/userguide/windows-how-to-work.html#using-multiple-desktops

It's certainly possible, but I'm not familiar with the setup. I expect it's
the same on FreeBSD as on any other UNIX, so any instructions you can find
should be relevant.

Control Center -> Appearance & Themes -> Colors.

For the first, see "kapp --help-kde" where kapp is some KDE app. For the
alternative, click the middle mouse button on a space on the desktop.
