No ideas, unfortunately - googling a bit suggests that this sort of error is rare to occur, but has happened to others before, both in the context of kdm and elsewhere. I suggest to file a bug against kdm at http://bugs.kde.org - the kdm developers will probably have a better idea about what's happening there. If you do, please report the number your bug gets assigned here so we can track it.
