JOB OPPORTUNITY



Position: Project team leader: “From illegal logging to good
governance”, Sumatra, Indonesia



This European Union funded project is aimed at promoting forest
conservation and sustainable livelihoods for communities within and
around a forest area on the border of Jambi and South Sumatra
provinces.



This forest is managed under an ecosystem restoration licence. The
initiative goes under the name of “Harapan Rainforest”, and is a joint
initiative of Burung Indonesia, the Royal Society for the Protection
of Birds, and BirdLife International.



The overall objective of the proposed action is ‘Sustainable
management, conservation and rehabilitation of tropical forests
secured through equitable governance and control of illegal logging’.



The specific purpose is ‘Conservation concession demonstrated as an
innovative governance mechanism, addressing livelihood vulnerability
and illegal logging, to secure sustainable use and regeneration in a
production forest in Indonesia’.



The funding from the European Union will end in May 2010.



A leader with the following skills is being sought:



Educated to at least bachelor degree level in a relevant subject.
Experience of European Union project management, or other donor project.
Experience of managing multi-stakeholder activities.
Experience of managing conservation projects.
Experience of working with government departments from village to
central government level, especially forestry departments.
Experience of working in an NGO environment.
Ability to communicate fluently in both spoken and written English.
Ability to communicate fluently in both spoken and written Indonesian.
Willing to live and work in a remote location.

The team leader will be tasked by the British NGO, The Royal Society
for Protection of Birds, through one of its Indonesian partners,
Yayasan KEHI, to be responsible for ensuring that the project outputs
are achieved successfully. The team leader will coordinate project
partners to achieve project objectives on time and in a professional
manner. The team leader will also take responsibility for effective
financial management of the project.

In addition to a salary in line with experience and duties, the team
leader will also receive free use of a house at the project site and
one return plane ticket Jambi-Jakarta per month.
