i'll try installing a 2.6.17-q5 kernel in my original system and see
if that works, i've never tried this, cause i assumed that the same
kernel was used in the boot.iso installer...

If you _only_ changed the textfile, every patch is applied, so if the
recompiled kernel work for you, it's a weird problem...
