Hello Greg, which version of Ubuntu are you using? That will give us a clue on what commands you have to use to downgrade to 0.8 for a quick conversion to the new XML format.
The binary file is very old, .a lot older than 0.8. Even KMyMoney 1.0 is frozen and out of maintenance by now.
