In Germany we don't have that concept. And we just remove the setting in the frameworks for the fields involved. The fields I listed are for authors etc. not subjects. Have you at least tried to change the configuration for those as I suggested? You can see the setting I mean on the screenshot here: https://koha-community.org/manual/latest/en/html/administration.html#editing-a-marc-subfield "Thesaurus: means that the value is linked to the authority catalog of the selected category. Authority categories are managed in the Authority types section."
