It's not a matter of Xen not supporting Windows. Nothing needs to be
changed in Xen to make Windows work. It is either Windows not supporting
Xen or Intel hardware not supporting full virtualization which would
allow operating systems to be virtualized without any modification to
the OS. But the next generation of Intel and AMD will correct a
deficiency in the cpu design so full virtualization will be possible. At
that point I don't know how Windows could possibly know it is being
virtualized.

As for comparisons: The Linux kernel is going with Xen so I think we
will see support for UML go away eventually. Xen is definitely better
performance-wise. UML is also a Linux only thing. Windows will never
work under UML. Xen virtualizes hardware interfaces in such a way that a
fault in a driver won't necessarily take down the whole system so I
think things are actually safer when running under Xen. As for UI, they
are both controlled via command-line but Xen allows you to do a lot of
things on the fly that UML will not such as increasing/decreasing
available memory or even migrating the running OS from one system to
another with only a few milliseconds of downtime. There is really no
comparison IMHO.
