With the right set of circumstances falling into place like tumblers
in a lock, I could see this happening. It would make for a great
science fiction story.
One massive area of humankind is locked behind an iron information
curtain, the two systems evolve and change in different directions,
and then the curtain comes up for some reason, leading to
earth-shattering conflict and sexy heroes doing somersaults from the
Monumen Nasional in Jakarta.
Heinlein, the Sixth Column. Japan and the orient basicly block all info and
travel to the west for several decades, then suddenly invade America with
unbeatable weapons and take over. Not a bad book, although its panned by
critics as showing extreme racism.
