Ebay now own's PayPal, which may or may not make a difference. I
checked the forums there and the most recent post I could find was
2005. So it may be that most of the horror stories about PayPal are
old news and no longer relevant after Ebay bought them.
I use paypal. I set up a special bank account at WAMU (it's free) with
only $5 in it specifically for paypal. They have no access to any
other accounts . I think I'm pretty safe this way.
YMMV
