Depends on how committed you are to using your existing firewall
computer. There are lots of combination firewall/router/switch boxes
on the market. You can just attach the input port of the new box to
the output of your cable modem. Then everything else connects to the
switch ports, and is networked together and also to the outside world.
As far as gigabit ethernet is concerned, the cable modem is nowhere
near that fast. There are a few firewall/router/gig-e boxes.
