I'm thinking of putting Ubuntu on her's and see if that makes a difference.
That would be surprising if the fault was W2k.
It could be the quality of the wireless hardware in each machine that
makes the difference. I have an old Sony laptop that has trouble when at
the other end of the house from the AP, whereas my wife's Fujitsu does
just fine.
