Speaking of which, anyone know the status of LED lighted LCD displays?
They're showing up pretty quickly in notebooks because of their reduced battery usage. Apple's MacBook Pros have them, and now Dell, Sony, Fujitsu and Asus have some higher end models that offer LED backlights as well. It'll take a little while for costs to come down enough to get them in lower-end laptops.
I'm afraid the situation isn't as good for desktop displays... since battery life is less of an issue and there's greater surface area that needs to be lit, I think it's still cost prohibitive. They do exist... but only in high-end models aimed at graphics professionals who need the utmost in accurate and consistent color reproduction. An example is the NEC MultiSync LCD2180WG-LED which is only 21" but retails for $3k.
