I think this is indicative of the "MINE!" society that we have. We are very possession oriented.

"MINE!" has nothing to do with it. I'm happy to share my wireless with any of my neighbors, guests, even the parents parked at the school across the street. Simply knock on my door and ask.

I think it should be an understood part of
netiquette that if the AP is unlocked you should be allowed to use it as long as you are considerate.

And this is where the disconnect happens. I wouldn't presume to use your wireless without your permission, and I'd expect you to act the same. You believe that I should realize your wireless is open and that I should behave as a guest.


Which of these positions will win out? Personally, I hope it's mine, but judging by society these days, I think it'll be yours.
