Open letter to Yahoo shareholder Carl Icahn:

Dear Mr Icahn,

You say in your letter to Yahoo board member Roy Bostock, "During the
past week, a number of shareholders have asked me to lead a proxy
fight to attempt to remove the current board and to establish a new
board which would attempt to negotiate a successful merger with
Microsoft, something that in my opinion the current board has
completely botched. I believe that a combination between Microsoft and
Yahoo is by far the most sensible path for both companies."

Apparently you know how to make money, if you're a billionaire. But I
think you might do well to note what the real cost is of the ill will
that Microsoft has a skill for generating. Microsoft offered a 70%
markup on the price of Yahoo stock, and Yahoo still turned them down.

Jerry Yang and the board of Yahoo were willing to risk losing the deal
and a tremendous markup on their fortunes. For what? What do you
think? I'd turn down three hundred dollars to jump off of a cliff,
even though three hundred dollars would mean a lot to me. You're
gonna have to give me more than that to do something that will hurt so
much.

Mr Icahn, Microsoft is doing something wrong if they can offer a
company that kind of money and still come up short. Hatred of
Microsoft is *very* deep rooted. Please reconsider if allying
yourself with Microsoft will really benefit you in the long run.
