it has been the fact that Windows does not keep running for the
average user which allowed me to install Linux on a half dozen common
Windows users computers. A couple of them my wife was doing the
support to keep them going when they crapped out and that even
included a couple of complete re-installations. The stuff falls apart
and once Linux was dual booting as the primary OS, the "support"
calls went to 1/year if that. New printers, dead mouse batteries,
and a cable modem IP change have been the only issues. Walking
them through adding a new app via Synaptic was also a "support"
issue. BFD compared to the junk my wife had to deal with in
Windows. The downside is that we don't get any more free dinners
for fixing the computers.

But, I've heard people say that Windows just keeps working fine for
them for many years. I find it very difficult to believe given all the
experiences I've heard around me and my wifes had to deal with.
To each his/her own.
