I've given up on Usenet.

I refuse to pay more for Usenet on top of what I'm already paying my
ISP, and every news server that I have access to (either because it's
free or because it's what one of my ISPs provides) sucks... they are all
unusably slow, full of garbage groups, poorly maintained (if at all),
and it is impossible to find anyone who cares about them.  News is
almost always outsourced... the ISP can't help you because they don't
manage the news server, and the news provider won't help you because you
aren't their customer... the ISP is.

It's a shame, but I've learned to cope.
