Yep, but maybe the only way to win is not to play that game, eh? I do think playing do-it-their-way has got to be demotivating to creative people. In the gimp case, they do still talk about matching p'shop functionaliy with a fresh view of how best to do it. Example: adjustment layers; it's been said that adjustment layers SB a property of the layer being adjusted --sorta-like layer masks, I suppose-- rather than a separate glued-on phony layer. I feel optimistic about gimp. Inkscape is not(!) too shabby, either. I wonder: could you say that a FOSS version of a high-learning curve tool might even have an advantage in capturing market. I suppose that's one reason why _they_ (practically) give away student versions of the pricey stuff?
