I have a Linode, but I doubt it'll do quite what Andy wants. Since he
mentions a monitor resolution, it sees that he's looking for a local
GUI.

Granted, I can X-forward windows from my Linode, but even simple stuff
(like Firefox) has really high latency. The closest datacenter housing
Linodes is in Fremont.

However, if he can get by with mostly command-line stuff on the remote
server, I'd say it's a really good deal. I do the cheapest plan at
Linode, but as Seb said there are more beefy VPSes available. Only up
to 2.8GB of RAM, though, and that one can get expensive quickly.

The best part about it, though, is the remote management. You can
reboot the virtual server from the Web interface, and you can even SSH
into the host and get tty0 at the box in case you accidentally block
access from the network or something.
