I have been thinking about this since around 2000. Yes, the hardware is
dirt cheap. Wire a microcontroller to a USB connector and a LCD screen and
sink the whole thing in epoxy and voila. Fast, cheap, easy.

This is the problem. Anyone know of a good algorithm? Good enough would
even suffice.
