The main reason not very many people are using a Rotax engine in their KR aircraft is the same reason they are not using a continental or lycoming. Cost! All of the engines you read about that are being installed on KR aircraft are cheaper to buy and maintain and some of them are in my opinion just as reliable. I don't think you could run any of them for 2400 hours but the cost of overhaul is a lot lower than a Lycoming or Continental when the time comes.

The 4 stroke versions appear to be pretty neat - very compact and surprisingly light - 124 lbs for the 100hp. I recall seeing a TV program "An airplane is born" all about the construction of a Europa with a Rotax engine - got to wondering why I have not seen or heard about a KR with a Rotax? Is there a reason that they are not popular with KR builders? Enjoy the weekend (F1 Grand Prix tomorrow) Steve J _______________________________________ to UNsubscribe from KRnet, send a message to krnet-le...@mylist.net please see other KRnet info at http://www.krnet.org/info.html .
