My DAR inspector, and I suspect most, wouldn't say a word about flex lines,
as long as they are properly installed and routed, and aren't el-cheapo
rubber fuel line from the parts store....especially to the level of what MS
spec they meet. Most would probably like to see some kind of fire-sleeve
installed too, but mine didn't care. I used Earl's Pro-Lite 350 hose
because it's high quality hose with a pedigree, is light, uses standard AN
fittings, and is proven in the racing industry. I've had zero problems with
it or the fittings.

The big problem with barbed fittings is that they are just about impossible
to get off once installed. I started out with barbed fittings on my
instrument static and pitot connections, thinking I'd never have to remove
them. Thirty seconds after installation I discovered I needed to remove
one, and it probably took ten minutes, and I destroyed the fitting in the
process. I ripped it all out and put in plastic screw fittings instead,
which I've disconnected/reconnected probably 50 times over the years playing
around and modifying that system. Barb fittings are not worth the pain...
