    The original discussion was about the header tank, and  weather it was 
safe. I changed the subject line in my reply because I was  replying to an 
email that didn't mention the header tank.  My bad.

   Back to the original question, which had to do with the merits  or 
detriments of using a header tank and flying around with fuel in front of  you. 
 
While the best reason to do something is rarely "because lot's of  other 
people have done it that way", I do believe the fact that header tanks  have 
been used safely for many years on numerous airframes is a valid  
consideration.  Yes, some folks are constantly searching for a tricker  neeter 
way to 
build a mousetrap, but using purely safety as a reason for the  change may be 
a little misleading.
