SketchUp is one of 3 CAD programs I use for work and is by far the easier and
faster to use. I have the PRO version which allows you to produce DXF files and
AutoCad files. The tutorials are great but the really good stuff are the Ruby
Plugins which are written by others. Goto  http://rhin.crai.archi.fr/rld/?id=110

to find great tools.

If anyone needs to convert a SketchUp file to DXF just email me and it's a
simple export. I do lots of objects which are then cut on a waterjet machine
for work.

After looking at the suggestions, Google's SketchUp fits bill be just fine
and a great tutorial to go along with it.
Great suggestion, thanks guys! :-)
If anyone out there hasn't tried this program and is in the same boat I was,
try it, it works great!
Thanks again,

I've never used any type of CAD software at all and have no idea where to
start to use it. So, with that in mind, what suggestions does anyone have?

http://sketchup.google.com/ is probably what you're looking for, and it's
free...
