I think you do better hitting a steel box structure to yield (deform) over several feet and absorb much of the kinetic energy gradually. I noticed that the wooden structures of downed KRs take a beating with ground contact. No fires, not too much penetration of the passenger compartment by broken structure or engine. I suspect that minimizing vertical speed on contact is vital. Peter
