Hi,

l2tp fires off pppd when it's ready. you might want to check bin paths and
permissions etc. otherwise turn on debugging for some more info as to why.

hi, how do I do that ? Is that a configuration (l2tpd.conf) option ?
You can either put:
ppp debug = yes
in your l2tpd.conf file,
or put:
debug
in the options file you use for pppd.

The only debug options for l2tpd itself are at compile-time.

I don't think you'll need to do this yet though, since the IPSec tunnel needs to be established first

I'm using SuperFreeS/WAN 1.99.8 - everything should be supported by
kernel and freeswan ... I've some debugs on my site :
http://lr101.linux-it-solutions.de/download/l2tp (config file -
isakmp.log of win98 client and sfs-1.99.8-log)
Phase 1 is coming up succesfully, but phase 2 isn't.
Not sure exactly what's wrong there, have you tried uncommenting the lines in the ipsec conf file:
leftprotoport = 17/1701
rightprotoport = 17/1701

good luck.
