My spouse did ship me off to my mother when I was in a body
cast -- first class! (Coach would have been better, though
-- coach seats way back then were plenty big enough for me;
the wider seat in first class let my cast rattle around.
Scared the fur off the stewardess -- Because I couldn't wear
shirts, my neighbor made several ponchos for me. Because of
the all-enveloping poncho, the stewardess didn't realize
that I was in a cast until I stood up to get off.
It's just as well that she didn't get a chance to fuss over me.
