Dear Friends, heard this on a UK TV programme tonight and it made me wonder.
How come a Detective is called that rather than something like Dectector??? I wonder when and by whom that word came into vogue.
The "ive" ending is usually reserved for adjectives. Know any other similar examples of nouns?
