Dora I think like others giving you advice that you would be safest staying with linen. Mixing threads can always cause problems.
If you give me your address, I will happily send you samples of any fine white linen threads that I can find in my stash. I will let you know their details so you can identify which is best. I think you are looking for ordinary machine sewing thread and finer. Is that correct? I don't often work in linen (having a personal preference for using cotton or silk) so don't have a huge collection. There may be other people on the list prepared to send you samples. How many holes are you darning? How big are they? Presumably you won't need a lot of thread in total, and if there are several pieces they may need different threads. Can you estimate how much thread you would need? If it's a small amount (10 yards or so), I will happily send you that.
