Dear all thank you for your responses. I've cut a small chunk off the end of the block and put it into a 35mm camera film tube cut in half (ie to make a small tub about the size of the wax) I've made my first pricking with it - It's wonderful not to hear that popping noise as the stuck needle drags its self out of the card!
