I have used silk for lots of my Milanese pieces.  Usually Gutterman 100/3.  I
have not had a problem with slipping silk, well at least no more than with
cotton.  Occasionally the thread will unwind in the twist, but that just
requires rolling the bobbin in the opposite direction and keeping an eye on
your threads.  Care also has to be taken when doing sewings as the thread can
have a tendency to split.  I love the color selection in Gutterman and Pipers
silks.  I say "go for it".
