Just his morning it hit me where I'd seen the term "purse silk". It was to do with a pattern I bought once to knit a beaded purse. The company that made that pattern sells "3-count" and "5-count" rayon (i.e. "artificial silk" or
"art silk") in a couple of dozen different colours on its website:
