Hello

In the National Museum of Amsterdam is a linen lace bedcover with two matching
pillows on display. The pieces are dating from Catharina de Medici period.
The set is decorated with cutwork, embroidery, Reticella and bordered with
bobbin lace.

The embroidery is done by applying motifs of the same linnen of the bedcover
with the overhand stitch.

The description is application embroidery.

Someone told me this technique cannot be called application embroidery as
stitches can be seen at the backside.

I wonder how else the motifs could be sewn on the extremely fine material.
