Carol and Diana, A flash drive is a small device -not as big as your thumb- which is plugged into the USB port of a computer so that files (documents or pictures, for example) can be saved there. Once on the flash drive, they can easily be accessed or copied to as many other computers an you want. They often have a lanyard or cord attached so that they can be worn around the neck.
My grandson is required to have one in his middle school. Instead of saving his work on school computers, he saves it on his flash drive and when he gets home, he can continue his work on his own computer.
