A bolster pillow is cylindrical - if used horizontally, it needs a support
of some sort - a wooden base, a basket or perhaps the lacemaker's lap. The
upright bolsters are traditional to Spain, for instance. I have not used one
of those.
Sister Claire, can you clarify - is the tombolo wheel-shaped, with an option
to store bobbins etc. in the hub?
