My Oxford English dictionary gives the pronunciation of arachnid as:

A - as in ago
R - r
A - as in fat
CH - k
N - n
I as in bit
D -

The way I pronounce it. Arachne isn't included but I'd pronounce it
A - as in ago
R - r
A - as in fat
CH - k
N - n
E - as in fear

For both words the stress is on the second A.

I queried about her/others belonging to Arachne and she was amused by my pronunciation of it. I assume the two "a" are pronounced the same as those in the word "arachnid" (which is provided via online dictionary to substantiate my pronunciation)...

Can someone please clarify for me?
