I was sort of against the name change, but I can see the reasoning. The one issue I see is that thing need to be CLEAR... As in, you wil need clear definitions of what is what, marketing materials, if you will, so people know what you are talking about. Going back to WordPress, if someone says "I have a WordPress blog" does it mean they host their own copy of WordPress, or use the hosted version? Maybe "identi.ca" should be the web site we use at http://identi.ca/ and and the software should be called "Identica" (upper-case, no period.) So really it would be renaming "Laconica" to "Identica" then. This can work... but avoiding confusion would be critical.
