I *would* dearly, dearly love to see a way to resolve this, but I can't think
of a good one that keeps everyone happy. 

How about this for an initial suggestion: you (I would do it, but I *really*
have no time. :( ) grab a copy of Parrot, change one or two of the files to
look like what they ought to look like.

I'm starting to see that at least part of the problem is that I've been used
to the Perl way of coding for too long, and thus find it difficult to see
alternative ways of doing things. If you send me a nice shiny example of how
you think it ought to look, it'd be much easier for me to decide whether it is
in fact better, without having to invent shakey post-facto justifications. :)
