Hi' i've just installed Opensolaris b82 on my laptop to give it a try. I'm quite new to this but learned some stuff from posts in this gr8 community. I have a problem with configuring my network card. Sorry if the post is long but i wanna provide all the needed info in one post according to the other similar posts on the subject.
I have a RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller according to the SUN's hw detection tool and windows device manage and the laptop specs. The bundled rge driver takes charge even during the install and i got a nice rge0 interface ready. But it doesn't work!!! I've used snoop to check and no data transfer going on except for the dhcp broadcasts. (The card was plumbed and ifconfig looks ok). I've configured an ip adress manually and still nada, no ping outside. Then I've installed windows and the card works fine. Tried all the live CD's (belenix, nexcenta, indiana) and still the same poblem. I've checked the interface using dladm show-dev and ndd /dev/rge0 link_status( or smth like that, don't remember the parameter by heart) and ndd /dev/rge0 link_speed both gave me the same result: rge0 link: up speed: 1000Mb duplex: full even when I've plugged out the cable the result was the same. And rebooting with the cable unplugged I've read many posts on network drivers problems and came to conclusion that my nic is supported by the rge driver and should work. but while the device is assigned with the "right" driver, it still fails to function properly. getting the Atheros network card is a whole other story(but sound like this one). Please help if you can. Thanks in advace, Pavel. I'm aataching the outputs from: /usr/X11/bin/scanpci prtconf -D prtconf -v This message posted from opensolaris.org
