alanc has uploaded the source build 40 of X which has fixes for the vbe bug. I am just about to download it and give it a whirl. Details are in his latest blog entry. The vbe b**stard bug got me a couple of times!!!
Also if you want to avoid rebooting into failsafe mode, then at the single-user prompt - fsck / (optional but as the irish say "to be sure to be sure") mount -o rw,remount / (it was originally mounted ro) bootadm update-archive reboot (you could try a svcadm clear boot-archive, but a simple reboot is safer) In a production environment the whole stopping a reboot is always a pain. Maybe Sun should look at automating this (self healing), or making an update of the archive mandatory part of the add_drv, devfsadm etc commands. Doug This message posted from opensolaris.org
