Hi Andrew,

Please post the commands you tried with wificonfig, and the output as well - 
which helps the trouble shoot.
As well as, you can try this way to use wificonfig:
#wificonfig createprofile <profile name> essid=<essid name> encryption=wep 
wepkeyindex=1 wepkey1=<your wepkey>
#wificonfig connect <profile name>

For the windows pop-up configuration tool, yes, so far, you need to type key 
each time.
