Just what I need. Still, it is under warranty, so not the end of the world.

The boot messages say the disk is an ST9120821AS.

The Seagate web site gives this as a 2.5", 120 GB 5400 rpm, 1.5 Gb/s  SATA disk 
with an 8 MB cache.

It does run natively under Vista too, so I guess the next thing is to check 
whether Vista logs any errors. I'll report back on that after checking it.
